February  Newsletter
2008

Dear Parents,

What a great time we had at our beach party last week!   We took many pictures and we will be sending them home in a take home envelope or photo album!!

On Thursday, Feb.14th, we will have our Valentine Parties.  We will be making Valentine bags during Imagination Stations, and the children can bring their Valentines to school starting Monday, Feb. 4th.   Please send 30+ valentines with your child - this will be enough for their classmates, and any of the special teachers:  Mr. Turner, Mr. Williams, Mrs. Hoffman, and Mrs. Janssen, or Mrs. Boyer, and/or others they choose like our high school helpers.  Please have your child sign the BACK of his or her valentines with their name - DO NOT PUT “TO” ANY PARTICULAR CHILD AS THIS IS TOO CONFUSING AND OFTEN CAN CAUSE HURT FEELINGS.  Then when your child brings his or her Valentine cards to school, they simply drop one of their cards in each of the individual bags.  You are welcome to join us for the party - Our morning class party  will be at 10:20 and the afternoon class at 2:15 .  The children really like this party with their bag full of Valentines - be ready to read all of them when they bring them home !!

February is also Dental Health Month and we will be doing many related activities with this important topic both during our regular class time, and “Imagination Stations.” Mrs. Lisa Hoffman, a dental hygienist will be visiting our classes on Tuesday, February 5th.

We have started Theme 5 week 3 of our reading series.  We have introduced the words:  I, see, my, like, a, to, and, go.  The word families -at, -an, and -it have also been introduced.   We really count on you to go over the words and word families that have been introduced, as well as the letter names and sounds.  Just a little time with you at home really helps and makes your child aware of your interest, too.

The writing suitcases that we mentioned last month are circulating with LOTS of things for your child to do for the night he/she brings it home.

Looking ahead - our second conferences will be held:

 * Monday, March 17th and Tuesday, March 18th for Mrs.

Thorne and Mrs. Locke.  The conference times will be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on both days.  We will be scheduling individual conference times shortly.

We will send more information later.

Thank you again for your support, interest, and help with all of our activities.  It is important for us to have a lot of communication from school to home, and home to school.

                 Happy Valentine’s Day,

               Mrs. Locke and Mrs. Thorne
